a little bit About
sky camp
Hidden among the North West slopes of the Great Divide.
Sky camp Then…
Once part of a large land holding stretching from Bonshaw to Yetman on the NSW/QLD border, Sky Camp forms part of the Atholwood community, which has a population of around 89.
The area is known for its fine wool production, cattle grazing and gold prospecting, as well as its rugged terrain and beautiful native timbers.
The original dwelling (circa 1900) was a squatters’ cottage. During the 50’s it became a teacher’s residence for the small single-teacher school in Atholwood.
This cottage now lies hidden within the stone and cypress walls that make up today’s homestead which has been built using local timber and stone from the property.
Sky camp now…
Today, Sky Camp is an active lifestyle farm of around 450 acres. Big enough to get lost in, but not big enough for full scale farming.
Owners David and Gail Trounce, along with their four children, Sally, Molly, Katie and Matthew – and two dogs, Biscuit and Tess, all share in the daily work of the property.
Their time is spent working with livestock, offering camping and bush retreat experiences, horse riding and building custom farmhouse furniture and decor.
